NEW YORK — U.S. and Western intelligence sources have uncovered evidence that Libya’s Moammar Kadafi is prepared to pay $100 million for the six Americans believed held by Lebanese terrorists, two U.S. news magazines reported Sunday.
Newsweek, in a report attributed to Western intelligence sources, said Kadafi made the offer to Iran, to which a number of Muslim extremist groups are believed to be loyal. Time quotes an intelligence source as saying Kadafi is also trying to buy seven French hostages from the Lebanese Shia Muslim extremist group known as Hezbollah (Party of God) for $50 million.
