Fullerton’s Asgari Advances in NCAA Wrestling

Cal State Fullerton’s Ardeshir Asgari won three matches Thursday in the first day of the NCAA wrestling championships at the University of Iowa.
Asgari, wrestling at 158 pounds, defeated Montana’s Rob Bazant in a wild-card match, 13-11, to advance to the first round. In the first round, Asgari beat Peter Rodgers of Stanford, 18-12, and then defeated Clarion State’s Ken Haselring, 10-6, in the second round.
Asgari, who improved his season record to 34-4, will compete in the quarterfinals this morning.
Two other Titans, Frank Trujillo and Dondi Teran, were defeated Thursday.
Trujillo, 118, defeated Paul Kapper of Cleveland State, 14-6, in the first round but was beaten by Al Palasio of North Carolina in the second round, 6-3.
Teran, wrestling at 134 pounds, lost in the first round to Iowa’s Greg Randall, 13-2.
Trujillo, who has a 32-5 record, and Teran (33-12-1) will compete today in the consolation bracket.
