Edmonton Oilers forward Dave Hunter was jailed after a judge in Edmonton dismissed his appeal of convictions for impaired driving and refusing to take a breath analysis.
Although the appeal was dismissed, Hunter’s lawyer, Ed Molstad, persuaded Court of Queen’s Bench Judge L.D. MacLean to reduce the jail term to 28 days from four months.
Molstad requested, and MacLean recommended, that Hunter serve his time at Belmont correctional institute in Edmonton, where he will be eligible for release after serving either one-sixth or one-third of his sentence. This means Hunter could be released after five or 10 days.
