Santa Monica : Myers Drafts Health Club Law

City Atty. Robert M. Myers is drafting a law that would require owners of new health clubs to apply for police permits and post bond with the city to provide refunds to patrons if the clubs go out of business.
The City Council on Tuesday granted Myers’ request to write the ordinance. Myers said that his office had received more than 1,500 complaints from members of three clubs that closed over the past three years, including the Beverly Hills Workout club, which shut its doors Dec. 9.
