USC Volleyball Team Takes Apart CS Northridge in Three Straight

The Cal State Northridge men’s volleyball team was demolished by USC, 15-8, 15-4, 15-5, Wednesday night in a California Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. match.
“We weren’t too worried about this match,” USC All-American Adam Johnson said. “They play well, but apparently we play better.”
The Trojans, ranked third in the CIVA, had 49 kills, 11 by Johnson.
The Matadors outplayed USC in the opening minutes of the first game as CSUN’s Chuck English, John Buffington and Mike Bird combined for a powerful offensive display. But the Matadors (6-6, 1-3 in CIVA) soon were helpless against the Trojan hitting.
With the score tied at four, USC made a seven-point run and never trailed.
CSUN made several serves into the net during the second game, and USC (6-1, 2-0 in CIVA) turned the opportunity into an 8-0 lead.
“USC is one of the best teams in the country,” CSUN Coach John Price said. “We made too many errors to compete with a team like USC.”
