The Los Angeles-based Center for Law in the Public Interest has filed a lawsuit against a state agency alleging that it illegally issued an operating license for the Westinghouse Electric Corp. nuclear service center in Beaumont. The lawsuit, on behalf of a group of Beaumont residents who oppose the plant, charges that the state Department of Health Services did not pay adequate attention to the center’s environmental impact. A hearing on the lawsuit is scheduled for Feb. 14 in Riverside County Superior Court.
