Los Angeles city and county officials have acted separately to alert pregnant women to the dangers of drug or alcohol abuse to unborn children. The Board of Supervisors ordered educational materials distributed, uniform hospital reporting standards set up to detect affected babies and creation of a pool of trained foster parents. A City Council panel, meanwhile, recommended passage of an ordinance requiring all places where liquor is sold to post signs warning of the dangers of drinking during pregnancy.
