HIGH SCHOOL NOTEBOOK : Simi Valley Boys Travel to Nevada

Simi Valley High’s undefeated boys basketball team today will make its debut against competition out of state at the Eldorado High Tournament in Las Vegas.
The Pioneers (5-0) will play Bishop Gorman High of Las Vegas (2-3) in the opening round tonight at 7:30. Bishop Gorman won the Nevada 3-A state championship two years ago.
Simi Valley is one of four California teams participating in the 12-team, double-elimination tournament that ends Saturday.
Crescenta Valley (5-0), another Southern Section team, is one of the tournament favorites. The Falcons will play Chaparral of Las Vegas (2-4), a runner-up in last season’s Nevada 3-A championship.
The winners of today’s games advance to the championship quarterfinals on Thursday against the teams with first-round byes.
