PEBBLE BEACH — Cindy Scholefield, who won medalist honors by a six-stroke margin a day earlier, matched par Wednesday and beat Amy Dalla-Mura of Garden Grove, 6 and 5, in a first-round match of the 19th State Women’s Amateur golf championship.
Another easy winner on the Pebble Beach course included Anne Quast Sander, the three-time U.S. Women’s Amateur champion who recently moved to California. Sander, of Pauma Valley, matched par on her card and defeated Georgia Borg of Bend, Ore., 8 and 7.
Scholefield, a 25-year-old accountant of Malibu, will face Diane Dickman, a Tulsa University student of Modesto, in the second round. Dickman won, 3 and 1, over Sandy Woodruff of Scotts Valley.
Former State Amateur champion Patricia Cornett of Greenbrae opened with a 4-and-3 victory over Marilyn Dahl of Lakewood. Vicky Lane of Northridge, whose 76 on Tuesday was the second-best qualifying score, was one of the first-round losers, beaten by Nancy Turner of Walnut Creek, 3 and 2.
