The INXS concert review proffered by Robert Hilburn (“INXS From Down Under Plots Its Way to the Top,” Nov. 16) resembled, at best, a mediocre college term paper on the pros and cons of comparisons.
Critics are paid to express judgments of the merits and faults of a group’s performance during a concert, to explicate the musical philosophy, to opine.
It was, therefore, disappointing to read a “review” which compared in detail every aspect of INXS with five different acts (including Bruce Springsteen, of course) but failed to REVIEW THE CONCERT. It was an uncalled-for treatise.
Please critique a group based on its own unique abilities, not everyone elses.
