Seychelles Dissident Slain in London

LONDON — Gerard Hoareau, an exiled opposition leader from the African island nation of the Seychelles, was shot and killed on the doorstep of his London home Friday by an unidentified gunman, police said.
Police said Hoareau’s killer, who was about 30, bearded and of “African appearance,” disappeared after the attack and was still being sought.
Hoareau, about 35, was the self-styled leader of a small group of Seychelles exiles implicated in a failed attempt to topple the leftist government of President Albert Rene in November, 1981.
