Katrin Dorre of East Germany took the lead at the 16-mile mark and went on to win the Tokyo International Women’s Marathon for the second straight year, beating countrywoman Birgit Weinhold by more than two minutes.
Dorre was timed in 2 hours 34 minutes 21 seconds, with Weinhold the runner-up in 2:36:29. Japan’s Hiroko Tazaki was third in 2:36:32.
