A Senate-House conference committee on transportation agreed to provide $616 million in subsidies to keep Amtrak operating in the fiscal year that began Oct. 1. The $616 million is a reduction from the $684-million subsidy Amtrak received in the previous fiscal year. The Reagan Administration has called for elimination of Amtrak subsidies. The bill must return to the House and Senate for approval before going to President Reagan.
