NEW ORLEANS — Sports bribery charges against former Tulane basketball star John (Hot Rod) Williams were reinstated today by a state appeals court, clearing the way for a new trial. His first trial ended when the judge declared a mistrial on grounds of prosecutorial misconduct.
Williams is one of three former Tulane players charged with shaving points in exchange for nearly $20,000 in cash. He was a second-round draft pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers but has not played because NBA officials will not approve a contract until his legal problems are concluded.
