Reagan’s Script at the Summit

The summit should be more than a public relations affair. I disagree with Jeane Kirkpatrick (Opinion, Nov. 3) who thinks it “better” that no formal commitments come from the summit but merely a “good time be had by all.” Because an insane wasteful arms race endangers the world’s future we must, as citizenry at risk, demand more of substance from the summit process. Success for the participants should be measured by real arms reductions and limitations on the development of new weaponry.
Neither the belligerent arrogant threats and posturing nor the empty self-serving smiles and cajolery of the superpower leaders to date can prevent nuclear holocaust.
