A 74-year-old woman died of burns suffered Tuesday morning when her nightgown apparently caught fire from a cigarette, according to a spokesman from the San Diego County coroner’s office.
Pattie Jones, of the 2400 block of West Valley Parkway in Escondido, was found on the living-room floor of the mobile home by her son, Bernard Jones, when he returned home from work at 12:30 a.m.
According to the report, Jones smoked two to three packs of cigarettes a day and had received small burns on her body in the past from fallen ashes. She also had a history of heart and blood pressure problems.
