Samantha Smith’s Dream for World Peace
In light of the tragic death of young Samantha Smith, the girl who did so much to further the cause of world peace, I think the Soviet Union and the United States should work together to bring about Samantha’s dream for world peace.
Ending the arms race would be wonderful, but perhaps the first step needs to be a small step. Each of us should write to our congressman suggesting exchange programs between Russian and American schools and youth groups. If the younger generations of Soviets and Americans learn not to fear each other, then maybe when they grow up to serve in their governments they won’t have the same fear of the “enemy” their elders had, and the goal of world peace will be that much closer.
