Nelson Put on Injured-Reserved; 15 Others Released by Raiders

OXNARD — There were no big names among the 15 cuts the Raiders made Tuesday, but linebacker Bob Nelson was put on the injured-reserved list.
The Raiders, who trimmed their roster to the mandatory 60, are expected to use their one free move to bring back offensive lineman Curt Marsh. If so, the only way they can get Nelson back will be to put him through waivers.
Also placed on the injured-reserved list were Stanley Adams, Albert Myres, Ricky Williams, Russ Jensen, Randy Van Divier, and Rod Barksdale. All of the players will draw their season’s pay.
Veteran linebackers Mark Merrill and Darryl Bird, whom Coach Tom Flores called “one of our favorites,” were among those cut.
Others cut included: quarterbacks Robbie Frasco and Mike Mendoza; running backs Ronnie James and Bobby Thompson; linebacker Ken Rose; defensive back Dwayne Green, who returned a fumble for a touchdown in the exhibition game against the 49ers; linemen Pat Hurley, Rick Ackerman, George Niualiku, Leonard Wingate and Quency Williams; kickers Steve Willis and Jeff Carter.
The Raiders, 0-2 in the exhibition season, play host to Miami this Saturday at the Coliseum.
