WANTAGH, N.Y. — Police investigating a reported break-in at a dentist’s office discovered a man sitting in the dentist’s chair and inhaling laughing gas, officials said.
Antonio Guerra, 35, of Levittown, was charged with third-degree burglary for allegedly breaking into the office Monday night.
Officer Robert Wheeler said a maintenance man called police after noticing a metal ladder propped in a hallway outside the office. Several ceiling tiles were removed to make room to climb inside, Wheeler said.
Upon entering the office, policewoman Margaret Funk found Guerra inhaling the gas. Nothing else was taken, Wheeler said.
Nitrous oxide is used by dentists as an anesthetic. It is called laughing gas because of the reaction it produces in some people.
