Residents opposed to making San Francisco the home port for the battleship Missouri have petitioned to get the question on the November ballot there. Another initiative group submitted one for a ballot proposition banning high-rise construction for three years. Each organization claimed to have more than the required 7,332 signatures. Registrar of Voters Jay Patterson said it would take about two weeks to verify the names. Missouri opponents said they want only non-military industry in San Francisco.
