Arthur E. Wible, president of the New York Daily News, was named Monday as publisher and chief executive of the Dallas Times Herald, a newspaper owned by Times Mirror Co., which also publishes the Los Angeles Times.
“With more than 20 years of newspaper experience, Arthur Wible brings to the Dallas Times Herald a demonstrated ability to lead large metropolitan newspapers in highly competitive markets,” said Phillip L. Williams, executive vice president of Times Mirror, in a prepared statement.
Wible, 48, will join the Dallas paper Aug. 1 and report to Tom Johnson, group vice president of Times Mirror’s Western newspapers and publisher of The Times.
Wible succeeds Johnson, who has served temporarily as publisher of the Times Herald following the departure of Lee J. Guittar. Guittar is now president of USA Today.
Wible had worked at the Daily News since 1978, rising from advertising director and executive vice president-sales and marketing to president in 1984. He began his career as an advertising salesman at the Chicago Tribune in 1959.
Wible is a past member of the executive committee of the International Newspaper Advertising & Marketing Executives and current president of the INAME Foundation. He also served as chairman of the New York City Partnership Summer Jobs 1984 Program, which found 25,000 jobs for low-income youths in New York City.
