Dismissal Is Sought in McEnroe Suit

MINEOLA, N.Y. — An attorney for John McEnroe sought dismissal Tuesday of a $6 million damage suit filed by a Long Island teacher who accused the tennis star of harassing him at the U.S. Open two years ago.
In the court papers, Christopher Schneider of Floral Park, N.Y., said he was a front row spectator during an Aug. 30, 1983 match between McEnroe and Trey Waltke, and McEnroe became angered because he was rooting for Waltke.
Schneider, who teaches social studies at St. Mary’s Girls High School in Manhasset, said McEnroe walked over to him and asked: “Don’t you have anything better to do than to cheer my opponent all afternoon?”
When Schneider answered, “No,” he said McEnroe shouted a string of obscenities at him.
He stated that the incident caused him humiliation and mental anguish.
