A former Newport Beach precious metals dealer was ordered to undergo a 90-day diagnostic study preparatory to sentencing for his role in a scheme federal investigators claim cost investors millions of dollars. After the study, Kent Gordon Alexander, who pleaded guilty to mail fraud and income tax evasion counts May 9, will return to Los Angeles federal court to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge A. Andrew Hauk.
