LONDON — Anthony Dowell, one of Britain’s leading male dancers, is taking over as director of the Royal Ballet next year, the company has announced.
Dowell, 42, will begin his new duties in September, 1986, after nearly 20 years as a principal dancer with the company.
He replaces Norman Morrice, director since 1977, who has been suffering from injuries and is resigning at the end of next season.
