U.S. Closes Training Center in Honduras

WASHINGTON — The United States closed its controversial military training center in Honduras on Friday after failing to resolve conflicts with Honduran officials over using the base to train Salvadoran troops, the Pentagon said.
The Regional Military Training Center at Trujillo, on the Caribbean coast of Honduras, shut down after two years of operation in which more than 11,000 Honduran, Salvadoran and Costa Rican military and police were trained by U.S. personnel, a Pentagon statement said.
