TWA’s flight attendants authorized a strike.

Vicki Frankovich, president of the Independent Federation of Flight Attendants, said in New York that about 95% of the ballots returned by Trans World Airlines union members gave strike authorization. About 6,800 ballots were mailed May 30 as bargaining over the airline’s demand for labor cost concessions failed to progress. However, a federal mediator must release both sides from negotiations and a 30-day “cooling off” period must pass before a walkout can occur.
