The City Council has approved a proposal by Councilman Stephen Schulte that could turn four or five vacant lots into community gardens. The council last week authorized City Atty. Michael Jenkins to write lease agreements between the city and the owners of the lots.
Plowing bids are being solicited. A lottery will be conducted to assign parcels if there are not enough to go around.
The first garden should be open by early July, according to a city spokesman.
