Body, Bullet-Riddled Car Linked to Drugs, Stanton Investigators Say
- Share via
The body of a 25-year-old man who had been shot in the head was found about a block from his bullet-riddled car in Stanton early Monday in what investigators theorize was a drug-related execution.
Capt. Leonard Haworth said Jessie Corey Ponce of Stanton apparently had been chased from his car. Heroin balloons were found on the body, Haworth said.
At 2:13 a.m, a resident reported to police that shots were being fired in the residential area of Pacific Avenue and Court Street, which is fronted by railroad tracks. Officers arrived and found a car riddled with bullets.
An hour later, police said, another person discovered Ponce’s body behind a commercial building in the 10500 block of Chestnut Street.
