A 17-year-old Oceanside girl who was critically injured in a motorcycle accident Thursday has died at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.
Tammy Lynn Lopes was taken by the Life Flight helicopter to Scripps on Thursday evening after the motorcycle on which she was a passenger struck a car. Lopes, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the cycle and landed on her head. The driver of the cycle, Eric Burke, 27, suffered a broken ankle and other minor injuries.
The accident occurred at Missouri and Freeman streets, an intersection controlled neither by traffic signals nor stop signs, police said. Police were unable to determine who was responsible for the accident, although their findings are being turned over to the district attorney’s office, said Sgt. Bill Krunglevich, of the Oceanside Police Department.
