A Los Angeles youth was beaten, stoned and stabbed to death by teen-age football rivals near Echo Park, police said. They said Robert Wolner, 17, was one of three boys chased into an alley by a band of 15 to 20 youths. Wolner’s companions outran the assailants, but “he didn’t run fast enough,” said homicide Detective Jim Bright. Police said Wolner was attacked with rocks, clubs, knives and other weapons, and was pronounced dead about 20 minutes later. Several youths were taken into custody and one will probably be charged with murder, police said. They said a second youth, who was unidentified, was injured in the melee Friday night.
