Olympic League, Academy League : Wyckoff’s Seventh-Inning Double Gives Capo Valley Christian a Win

Dave Wyckoff’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday gave Capistrano Valley Christian High School a 5-4 upset win over Whittier Christian in an Olympic League game played on Doug Fritz Field at Saddleback College.

Whittier Christian, which had already clinched the league title, went into the game as the top-ranked team in the Southern Section’s 1-A division.

Wyckoff’s double, which short-hopped the wall in right field, helped the Eagles avenge an extra-inning loss.

Jay Hawthorne and Bobby Stephens led Capistrano Valley Christian’s offense as each had two hits and an RBI.

Pete Gervais (5-5) went the distance to get the win while striking out 10.
