Shortstop Ron Dale hit a three-run homer in the second inning after doubling to set up a pair in the first to help Valley College overcome nine errors to defeat Moorpark College, 8-7, in a non-conference game Tuesday at Valley.
The game got off to a fast start. Moorpark scored three times in the first on three walks, a two-run double by Jeff Hoover, and a wild pitch.
Valley answered with two runs on a pair of walks, a double by Dale, and a two-run double by Bobby Hernandez.
Valley gave Moorpark two more runs in the second inning with a walk, an error, then a wild pickoff throw that allowed both runners to score.
The Monarchs (12-11-1) bounced back with five in the bottom of the second on two more walks, RBI singles by Tim Reiley and Mark Butcher, and the three-run homer by Dale.
Tony Estrada (1-1) allowed just two hits and struck out seven over the first six innings for the win.
Canyons 9, Mission 0
Bill Bluhm socked his 13th home run, and teammates Bill Carlson and Frank Halcovich also homer to lead the Cougars (7-2-1, 17-9-1) to a Mountain Valley Conference win.
Because of a scheduling conflict, Mission (1-9) was the home team, though the game was played at College of the Canyons.
Mark Titchner (2-2) allowed one hit over the first five innings and struck out six for the win. Bob White took the loss.
