A 26-year-old suspect in a thrift shop robbery died after surgery at Pomona Valley Community Medical Center for a gunshot wound in the abdomen, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Samuel Guajardo of Pomona allegedly pointed a sawed-off shotgun at a Pomona police sergeant, who confronted him after a robbery at the shop operated by Leroy’s Boys Home at 716 E. Mission Blvd. The sergeant, whose name was not released, spotted Guajardo allegedly fleeing from the store with the shotgun in his arms and a black watch cap over his face. The sergeant ordered Guajardo to freeze and drop his weapon, the spokesman said. The suspect reportedly turned and pointed his gun at the policeman who opened fire.
