Ex-VA Head Cleland Receives DAR Award

WASHINGTON — Max Cleland, the former Veterans Administration chief who lost both legs and his right arm in Vietnam, received the Outstanding Veteran-Patient Award on Tuesday from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Cleland, now Georgia’s secretary of state, started counseling centers for veterans and expanded vocational rehabilitation programs for the disabled as head of the VA during the Jimmy Carter Administration.
