Plans to open an Adam Walsh Child Resource Center to offer programs for missing and exploited children in Southern California were announced at a press conference in Los Angeles. John Walsh, whose 6-year-old son was abducted and killed in Florida in 1981, said he expects that the center will open about Sept. 1 somewhere near the border of Los Angeles and Orange counties. Along with its other activities, the center will lobby the California Legislature for child-safety laws, he said. A fund-raising drive to raise an initial $50,000 to open the center is aimed at small business retailers.
