BONN — Car license plates bearing the letters SS and other initials associated with the Nazi era have been banned by West Germany’s most populous state.
The ban by the government of North Rhine-Westphalia included the combinations SA, KZ and HJ.
The SS were Hitler’s Nazi storm troopers and the SA were a brown-shirted paramilitary force. KZ is the German abbreviation for concentration camp. HJ stands for Hitler Youth, the Nazi youth organization, in German.
