CSUN Women Finish Seventh in NCAA Division II Gymnastics Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Cal State Northridge finished seventh in the NCAA Division II National Women’s Gymnastics Championship Friday at Springfield College.
The Lady Matadors scored 170.60 points, well behind champion Jacksonville State University, Alabama, which had 176.85 points.
CSUN’s Janine Elliot finished third in all-around competition with 35.40 points. The sophomore was named to the NCAA Division II All-American team. The top six finishers in all-around competition qualified for All-American status.
Elliot competes today for the individual championship in vaulting and on bars. She qualified for the championships by finishing in the top eight in Friday’s preliminaries.
Jennifer McFarland of Jacksonville State, the all-around runner-up last year, was all-around champion with 35.80 points. Julie Morrow of Slippery Rock State College, Pennsylvania, finished second with 35.75 points.
Junior Stacy Baker of CSUN finished 29th with 33.10 points and sophomore teammate Monica Mayes was 31st with 32.50 points.
Favored Southeast Missouri State finished second in team competition with 173.95 points and Winona State College was third with 173.50.
