The U.S. may ease controls on computer exports.

The Commerce Department is proposing to liberalize regulations covering the sale of some types of U.S.-made computers and scientific instruments to the Soviet Union and other Communist countries. Under the proposal, the department would remove controls on certain U.S. exports if similar goods are already being sold to Communist countries “in such quantities that controlling them would no longer improve the United States’ national security.” The proposals will not take effect until public comments are reviewed.
