San Diego Prep Soccer : Maggie Juarez Leads Southwest Girls to Victory

SAN DIEGO — Maggie Juarez scored with three minutes to play in the second overtime period to give the Southwest High girls soccer team a 1-0 win over San Pasqual in a San Diego Section 2-A Conference semifinal game at Mount Miguel. Southwest (20-3), the No. 2 seeded team, will play top-seeded Mission Bay (22-3) for the 2-A championship on Friday at 5 p.m. at San Diego High.
Southwest’s Allyson Fike headed the ball to Juarez off an inbound throw. Juarez’s winning shot was a left-footer over the goalkeeper. No. 3 seeded San Pasqual finished the season 15-6-2.
In boys soccer:
Granite Hills 2, Torrey Pines 1--Top-seeded Granite Hills (23-0) rallied from a one goal deficit to win the San Diego Section 3-A Conference semifinal game at Mount Miguel High. Granite Hills will play the No. 2 seed, Poway (22-1-1), at San Diego High for the 3-A title at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Jerry Pennock scored both goals for Granite Hills. Torrey Pines (14-5-1) scored first eight minutes into the game, but Pennock tied the game with five minutes left in the half with assists from Jeremy Kay and Wally Polson. Pennock scored the game winner two minutes into the second half after a long throw-in by Todd Prentice caught the Torrey Pines’ defense off guard. Granite Hills outshot Torrey Pines, 19-4, in the second half.
