Winning Logo for Barricade Is Announced

Ric Claveria, a Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising student, won the $500 first-place award in a competition for a design for barricades at the 818 West 7th St. Building, now undergoing renovation.
The winning design, a multicolored stripe incorporating the building’s logo, was reproduced on the barricades surrounding the project during its renovation by the owner, Hammerson (West USA) Corp., a subsidiary of London-based Hammerson Property Investment and Development Corp. The Feola/Deenihan Partnership is restoration architect and Jones Lang Wooten is the building’s leasing agent.
Other winners among the 57 entries by institute students were William E. Schuster, $300 for second place; Grayum Wells, $200 for second place, and 10 honorable mentions, Susan D’Urso, Andy Engel, Celia Forrester, Fay Y. Ko, Kennith Lin, Luis Rubalcava, Divia Sanchez, Felipe Sanchez, Carlos Sarmiento and Gracie Wiginton, $25 and an institute sweatshirt each.
