Northeast Louisiana Upsets Irvine in Tennis

UC Irvine men’s tennis team suffered its second loss Tuesday when unranked Northeast Louisiana University upset the Anteaters, 9-2, at Irvine.
Fourteenth-ranked UCI (9-2) fell flat against an NLU (2-1) team that is loaded with foreign players, including three Swedes.
UCI’s victories were at No. 5 singles and No. 2 doubles. The Anteaters’ Darren Yates defeated Kurt Thomas, 6-4, 6-3, and the team of Julian Barham and Yates defeated Luis Castromalaga and Thomas, 3-2, 6-2, 6-2. The victory was the doubles team’s seventh straight. The pair have a 10-1 record.
