College Men : Matthews ‘Steels’ the Show

A few years ago, John Matthews was earning $27,000 a year as a steel worker in Pittsburgh Pa. Now he uses his 6-8 frame to bully Western State Conference opponents.
At Moorpark College on Tuesday, he did just that in leading his Taft College team (ranked third in the state with a 23-3 overall record and 7-0 mark in WSC play)to a, 91-74, blow-out over Moorpark.
While teammate Keith Jackson led the Cougars with 26 points, Matthews, a 28 year-old sophomore center, almost single-handidly delivered the knockout punch to the Raiders by scoring 19 points, Grabbed 15 rebounds and blocking five shots.

Biola University used a balanced scoring attack and took advantage of 33 Cal Lutheran College turnovers to win
The victory improves Biolas’s record 6-2 in the NAIA district 3 Northern Division. Cal lutheran drops 1-6.
