Toreros Still Winless in WCAC After 58-45 Loss to Gonzaga

Gonzaga University outshot the University of San Diego, 58% to 41%, from the floor Thursday night and defeated the Toreros, 58-45, in a West Coast Athletic Conference game before 2,825 in Kennedy Pavilion at Spokane, Wash.

The win improved the Bulldogs’ WCAC record to 2-1 and overall mark to 12-5. USD is 0-2 and 11-6.

Gonzaga, which outscored USD from the free-throw line, 14-3, was led by guard Jeff Condill, who had 16 points, and forward Bryce McPhee, who had 15. Neals Madden and Kiki Jackson each scored 10 points for USD and were the only Toreros to reach double figures.

Jeff Condill scored a game-high 16 points and forward Bryce McPhee added 15 as Gonzaga broke open a close game in the second half.

Leading 43-35 with eight minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs outscored the Toreros 11-2 over the next five minutes to take a 54-37 lead with 1:46 to play.

The Bulldogs jumped to a 7-2 lead four minutes into the game, but San Diego battled back to take its largest lead at 15-9 with 10:17 left in the half.
