Literacy Programs to Be Started in Mexico

MEXICO CITY — Nine Mexican states, including several along the U.S. border, will be the targets of literacy programs this year, the National Institute for Adult Education announced Friday.
The institute has a goal of bringing nearly 1.5 million people in those states into the program and bringing 800,000 to the point that they can read and write.
The plan is aimed at reducing illiteracy to a minimum in the states of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, Sonora and North Baja California, along the border, and South Baja California, Colima, Aguascalientes, San Luis Potosi and Tabasco, in addition to the Federal District.
