The state Park and Recreation Department lacks general plans for two-thirds of the state parks, is late in collecting lease payments, has inaccurate information about its lands and needs updated maps, the state auditor general says. Resources Secretary Gordon Van Vleck, whose agency includes the parks department, responded that the lack of a general plan does not prevent the public from using a park. He said the department is working on the late lease payment problem and will update its land inventory and hire consultants to make new maps. The auditor’s report, signed by Auditor General Thomas Hayes, said that as a result of the problems uncovered “public access to some state parks is limited” and the state loses some revenue.
