JC BASKETBALL : Brahmas Triumph Over Canyons

Pierce College made 20 of 23 free throws Friday night on the way to a 64-60 non-league win over visiting College of the Canyons.

THe Brahmas, 7-9, got 16 points from Mike Torres including a steal and dunk with one minute left to put Pierce ahead by one. Roosevelt Faulkner added a three-point play to stretch the lead to four. Free throw shooting make the difference from then on. Kelly Huston, who had nine points and seven rebounds, was 5 of 5 and Faulkner made 6 of 7 for the night.

Pierce will open Metro Conference play Wednesday night at LA Harbor while Canyons, 12-4 will be looking to break a three-game losing streak when it opens Mountain Valley Conference play Jan. 16 at LA Trade Tech.
