Boys’ basketball: Etiwanda hanging with Mater Dei

Mater Dei appeared on the way to a possible blowout when it scored 12 of the game’s first 16 points, but Etiwanda responded with a mini-run and trails only 14-10 at the end of the first quarter in the Division 1AA championship at the Honda Center.

UCLA-bound guard Tyler Lamb has had a few highlight plays so far for the Monarchs, including a breakaway dunk. Lamb has six points and Gary Franklin five for Mater Dei.

Forward Byron Wesley has four points for Etiwanda.
