Paul George, the 6-foot-8 wing for Knight, got off to a hot start in the Southern Section Division II-A final between Rancho Verde and the Hawks, scoring seven of their first nine points, but Rancho Verde scored the last seven points of the first quarter and it’s tied, 9-9, heading into the second at the Honda Center.
George sank a three-point basket from the baseline in front of the Rancho Verde bench, then finished off a fast break to give Knight a 9-2 lead.
However, a driving layup by Rancho Verde guard Ulande Washington tied the score with 15 seconds remaining in the opening quarter.
I’ve got a nice courtside seat for the night, but it smells like the dishwashing station in a restaurant down here, so I’m wondering what that’s all about.
Other than that, should be an enjoyable day to watch some high school basketball.
