My top 10 is pretty much the same as last week, even though I had to bump Oaks Christian down a few spots. So, without further delay, here’s my list of the top Southern Section girls’ basketball teams in ONLY the SF Valley/North region:

  1. Ventura (19-1, 4-0) -- On cruise-control until the postseason.
  2. St. Joseph (18-1, 6-0) -- No challengers in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties for Ane McPike & Co.
  3. Saugus (17-3, 4-0) -- Has a strong supporting cast led by Lauren Labat, Nicole Hicks and Breann Wilson.

4. Royal (16-4, 7-1) -- Highlanders shouldn’t have any problems this week.

5. Harvard-Westlake (12-8, 4-1) -- Loss to Notre Dame was tough, but Nicole Nesbit and the gang will rebound.

6. Valencia (14-6, 3-1) -- Starla Wright has averaged more than 20 ppg over last three contests.

7. Hart (12-7, 3-1) -- Never count out the defending Foothill League champions.

8. Oaks Christian (13-3, 5-1) -- Lions’ Tri-Valley League title hopes can’t afford any more setbacks.

9. Knight (14-3, 7-0) -- Best girls’ basketball team in the Antelope Valley.

10. Fillmore (14-5, 5-0) -- I’m not going to underestimate the Flashes again.

Feel free to let me know what you think, and you can even try posting your own top 10. Also, yes, I’m well aware I have the Lions ranked ahead of the Flashes, but I can’t ignore OC’s strong tournament season. It’ll be great when these two teams meet again on Jan. 31.
