TV pulls a reverse on Riverside County wrestling championships

Would it be appropriate if the city of Santa Ana hosted a high school basketball tournament and Mater Dei was invited?

Or the city of Anaheim had a water polo tournament and Servite showed up.

That’s the feeling I had when I read this story on the decision of the Temecula Valley wrestling team to bow out of the Riverside County championships this weekend and host their own state-caliber tournament at their newly built facility.

With the exception of a few individual wrestlers here and there, the Golden Bears are in a class by themselves when it comes to Riverside County wrestling programs. Give some of the other kids a chance to take home first-place medals and let Temecula Valley hash it out against similarly strong programs from across the state.

County championships, regardless of the sport, are overblown anyway. County lines have become increasingly blurred with changes in demographics, which have skewed any hope of maintaining competitive equity from one neighboring city to another.
